  13. * Wind field input added to Alt+[U]pdate, NHC "pop-up" window.  Wind
  14.   information that is entered is included in MERLIN Advisory.  Registered
  15.   version of MERLIN will also graphically draw the wind field relative to
  16.   the storm's center, on MERLIN's tracking maps.

  18. * Improved handling of the NHC Forecast/Outlook code - partial sets of data
  19.   can now be entered for those times when the NHC supplies partial forecasts

  46. television monitors or to display to employees on a dedicated PC at a central
  47. location.

  50. users.

  59. 1.5a - Pre-release of 1993 version of MERLIN.  New features for 1993 include:
  60. * AUTOMATIC UPGRADE capability for all of 1993.  Upgrades of the 1.5x series
  61.   will be kept in the IBM Applications Forum on CompuServe.  Download any
  62.   1.5X series that is newer than your registered version and your MERLIN.COM
  63.   file sent with your registration diskette will suppress all SHAREWARE
  64.   messages for any 1.5x series upgrade.  The latest version of MERLIN is also
  65.   kept in the Public software Library Catalog, 1-800-242-4PSL.

  67. * A total of FOUR tracking maps, Alt+[A]tlantic, Alt+[E]ast coast, Alt+[G]ulf
  68.   of Mexico and the original MERLIN map accessed by pressing "M" from the
  69.   MERLIN Advisory.

  71. * UNDO mistakes by choosing "unDo" from the MERLIN menu.  This eliminates
  72.   editing the ASCII file with a text editor in most situations where in-
  73.   correct information was entered and saved from the Update storm screen.

  75. * SPEED-TRAK, a "speed-up" feature that is used whenever a storm being drawn
  76.   is off-screen.

  78. * National Hurricane Center forecasts can now be plotted on-screen if you

  80.   Advisory to bring up the alternate update screen which is where NHC
  81.   forecasts can be entered.

  83. * A Gray color scheme has been added to the program along with new, button
  84.   style, pop-up boxes/menus.

  94. 1.4i - error handling improved when duplicate date/time or duplicate
  95. latitude/longitudes as previous entry are entered when updating storm.
  96.  
  97. 1.4h - Bug fix to Update Storm menu item.  After updating, it was necessary
  98. to either re-load the current storm from MERLIN's menu after updating, or
  99. exit the program and re-start MERLIN to have the correct MERLIN's OUTLOOK.
  100. 7All other items on the advisory were OK.

  102. 1.4g - Tracking information is presented on-screen while MERLIN is plotting
  103. the storm's coordinates on the tracking chart.  Maintenance upgrade to the
  104. neural network to include new storm data.

  106. 1.4f - Puerto Rico, Jamaica and smaller islands have been added to the
  107. tracking chart.  A laser jet printed manual is now sent with registration.  
  108. Also, the registered version of MERLIN now has over 100 tracking locations
  109. included in the menu, and many of these are based on the "official" locations 
  110. normally used by the National Hurricane Center for watch/warning and landfall

  148. 1.4e -   A message in the MERLIN Advisory states when the tracking location is
  149. in the NE quadrant of the storm if the storm is within 100 miles of the
  150. tracking location.  New opening screen based on an image sent to T. M. Parker
  151. by J. K., a meteorologist and registered user of MERLIN.  Minor changes to
  152. interface.
  153.  
  154. 1.4d - Review mode allows viewing/printing of previous MERLIN Advisories by
  155. using the PgUp/PgDn key.  12 Hour Projections now calculated using RatIo
  156. Tracking Algorithm (RITA).  This mathematical model replaces all the
  157. regression models used by earlier releases of MERLIN.  Regression is an
  158. excellent forecasting tool, but there were rare instances where the data
  159. presented to MERLIN would cause problems.  RITA uses ratios to create the
  160. 12 Hour Projection, and performs nearly as well as regression when the storm
  161. is traveling straight.  When the storm is turning, RITA significantly
  162. outperforms regression.  Overall, RITA's projection is superior to earlier
  163. regression models.
  164.  
  165. 1.4c - Significant improvement to the detail level of the tracking map.  Also,
  166. Five degree longitude increase in tracking map area (ie.more Atlantic Ocean).

  168. 1.4b - All the features of previous versions.  Code revisions/optimizations.
  169. MERLIN now will work with a maximum of 75 readings instead of 50.  Credit card
  170. orders now available thru 1-800 number - see ORDER.FRM file.

  172. 1.4a - All the features of previous versions.  Code revisions that prevent
  173. MERLIN from re-calculating if a menu is popped-down by pressing the Esc key.
  174. More cities added.  Now there are 36 locations instead of 23, and these are
  175. easily modified by the user with any ASCII text editor.

  177. 1.40 - All the features of previous versions.  This is the "official" version 
  178. of MERLIN for the 1992 hurricane season.  MERLIN can print the tracking map to
  179. any IBM/Epson compatible dot-matrix printer.  Use ALT+1 (LPT1) or ALT+2 (LPT2).
  180. MERLIN.DOC is now available on-line, simply by pressing a key from MERLIN's
  181. menu.  Removal of timed shareware delay when exiting program.  The purpose of
  182. the delay was to ensure adequate reading time for closing message.  This is now
  183. just a "press any key" delay.  SPANISH LANGUAGE version of MERLIN 1.40 is now
  184. available.
  185.  
  186. 1.30 - All the features of previous versions.  Graphical tracking capability
  187. added, based on numerous requests by registered users (EGA/VGA color monitor
  188. required).  Storm intensity color coded.  MERLIN's 12 Hour Projection is added
  189. to the storm track automatically for a visual representation of MERLIN's
  190. calculated projection of the most recent trend using the mathematical models.
  191.  
  192. 1.20 - All the features of previous versions.  MAJOR upgrade to mathematical
  193. model.  Now, includes curvi-linear regression routines.  Previous versions had
  194. only linear regression for mathematical model.  MERLIN automatically chooses
  195. best method and applies it to forecast based on trend.  Free program offer to 
  196. registered users - 4CAST.EXE.  This program uses a sub-set of the mathematical
  197. models in MERLIN to work with ANY data sets.
  198.  
  199. 1.10 - First major release to public.  Uploaded to Compuserve and several
  200. regional BBS systems (Houston/Miami areas).  1st use of artificial intelligence
  201. and mathematical models to determine future location/strength of storm based on
  202. recent trend.  Text-based reports and history, viewed on-screen or sent to
  203. printer.
  204.  
  205. 1.00 - Early public release to limited user group.  Basically the 1.0b version
  206. after changes implemented, based on Beta team's suggestions.
  207.  
  208. 1.0b - Beta version, used by Beta team to uncover errors in program
  209. functionality.  This version was not released to public.
